Central PA's LGBT News Source
Events coming out of Washington in the days since January 20, have many in our community scared and angry. If you have those feelings and failed to vote in November 2016 for whatever reason you thought made sense, then you are part of the problem. Voting in EVERY election should be a priority for every LGBT person.
Did you vote in the lackluster Primary Election we recently held in the Commonwealth for several state offices and a whole slew of local races? If you did not vote, shame on you! A race for mayor in a city, township or borough can affect your daily life in more ways than a Congressman, Senator or President could even think about.
Bills for the 2017 version of the “PA Fairness Act” have now been submitted in both the State House and Senate.
While passage of a non-discrimination law at the state level may still be a heavy lift, we are seeing success at the local level.
The number of local ordinances providing non-discrimination protections have been on the rise in Pennsylvania. In fact, within the past two years we have gone from 27 municipalities with protections to 43, with one more likely by the end of June, and three more possibly by summer’s end.
If you look and your municipality it looks like passage of a non-discrimination law might be possible contact Equality PA. We will do everything we can to make it a reality.
Remember – If you vote every chance you have, we can make a difference.
TransCentralPA will be busy tabling at this summer’s Pride events.
Look for us July 29 at Central PA Pride Festival and Aug. 6 at York Equality Fest. On Oct. 13 we’ll be at Millersville University Pride Fest. Please drop by to say hello. If you need to know more about who we are and what we do, we will be excited to talk with you.
