The mid-state’s only all-female lesbian and feminist chorus has announced its Nov. 2017 concerts "Keep On Moving Forward!"
Concerts dates are Sat., Nov. 18, 7:30 PM at the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, 300 E Simpson St, Mechanicsburg; and Sun., Nov. 19, 3:00 PM at the Colonial Park United Church of Christ, 5000 Devonshire Rd, Harrisburg.
The concerts will showcase the chorus's beautiful retrospective of works commemorating voices magnifying the deepest desires for human equality. Audiences will hear pieces such as "Bread and Roses," "I Hear Liberty," "Never Turning Back," a modern rendition of "Ave Maria," and the eternally haunting "Nigra Sum."
The strong resurgence of the Central Pennsylvania Womyn’s Chorus has resulted in maturity and a wonderful sound – while still staying close to roots of advocacy and inclusion. Due largely to the group's Peabody Conservatory-trained Director, the talented Jordan R. Markham, concerts have become an experience unlike any other here in the mid-state.
The Chorus enjoys recognition for musical excellence in a wide range of styles, including classical, folk, jazz, a cappella, rounds, show tunes and popular songs of the 20th century. It has performed across the state and nationally, notably featured singing for the PA Immigrant and Refugee Women’s Network, the PA Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and as the opening act for Holly Near, with Emma’s Revolution and backup singers for Judy Collins.
A $2.00 discount will be given to concertgoers who bring in a donation of school kit essentials to benefit the Catholic Charities Immigrant and Refugee Resettlement Program.
