Under the artistic direction of Stuart Landan, downtown Harrisburg’s Open Stage, 25 N. Court Street, located on street level beneath the Walnut Street Parking Garage, has launched a fully redesigned space.
The region’s professional theatre company boasts a new entrance, a second dedicated performance space and a bar. The renovation will greatly expand the theatre’s ability to present in many formats - variety shows, jazz concerts, cabarets, drag performances and improv comedy. Other renovations include additional bathrooms, more dressing room space, a new lobby, and expanded office space.
For its 34thseason, the company will continue its traditional season of plays and musicals. Open Stage will present the legendary 80s-gay-AIDS-themed Angels in America, a two-part play by Tony Kushner, May 9 through June 28, 2020. The show will present Part I: Millennium and Part II: Perestroika. Kushner’s play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Tony Award for Best Play, and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play.
