PA STILL WITHOUT LGBT PROTECTIONS
About 40 people gathered on the steps of the state Capital in Harrisburg on Oct. 29 to bring attention to the fact that Pennsylvania has no basic civil rights protections for LGBT taxpayers.
First they danced on the Capital steps. Then they went inside the dome to meet with elected officials. Participants appeared to agree the face-to-face meetings helped to dispel the often-repeated thought that an elected official has no LGBT constituents. For example, recently Altoona Mayor Matthew Pacifico “stated that no gay people live there,” according to an Altoona Pride Parade Support’s Facebook post. Consequently, the alleged comment reportedly sparked a huge response from local LGBTQ+ family and their allies. So much so that a Pride parade was held Oct. 11 in downtown Altoona to coincide with National Coming Out Day.
