Milford Readers & Writers Book Festival

Author to be interviewed by CV's own

Central Voice editor and publisher Frank Pizzoli will interview Duncan Hannah at the 2018 Readers and Writers Book Festival. The event will be held in Milford, PA, Sept. 28-30.

Hannah’s book - Twentieth-Century Boy – taken directly from the notebooks he kept throughout the 1970s, is a louche, sometimes lurid, and incredibly entertaining report from a now almost mythical time and place, full of outrageously bad behavior, naked ambition, gender-bending celebrities, fantastically good music and evaporating barriers of taste and decorum.

At its center: a young man in the mix and on the make, determined to forge an identity for himself as an artist while being at risk from his own heedless appetites. A time capsule from a scary, seedy, but irresistible time and place. Hannah offers his personal account of himself amid the city’s glamorous demimondes in their and his most vital era as an aspiring artist, roaring boy, dandy, cultural omnivore, and far-from-obscure object of desire.

Pizzoli previously interviewed Hannah for The Brooklyn Rail last May

Writers and other members of the creative class speaking at the festival include Alan Alda, who will be interviewed by Ms.co-founder Suzanne Levine, and Daily Beastwriter Tim Teeman and author Sean Strub, who will discuss Teeman’s book In Bed With Gore Vidal: Hustlers, Hollywood, and the Private World of an American Master.Mary Badham will discuss her role as Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird. Noted feminist author Susan Faludi will also speak. The festival offers both ticketed and free author events.

The Milford Readers and Writers Festival was conceived when literary lawyer Bob Levine, author Suzanne Levine, author Amy Ferris and Milford’s mayor and author Sean Strub over dinner fantasized about the possibility of creating a literary festival in Milford. Gloria Steinem, who spoke at the 2017 festival, said “This festival shows us the worldwide importance of coming together to share ideas and build community.”
